Change Process:
(self-reported)
Scoring for this section is based on the organizations ability to provide clear, measurable, client-focused stages of change based on participant participation.
When participants come they are often hostile and feel alienated from the community as a whole. Many are involved with gangs, substance, and premarital sex. Participation in program activities including recreation (sports, music, meals, field trips to community events, opportunities to volunteer and interact with young people from other parts of the community , tutoring, GED preparation, job training, individual and family counseling opportunities to earn part of the funds for special events by making and selling crafts, tacos, etc work together to help participants experience success and find they can move from being part of the problem to creating solutions and making a positive contribution to the community. Program graduates who volunteer with the program show by their lives as well as their words that change is possible and desirable. For many of the young people bonding with L.A.M.P. staff, volunteers, and other participants comes to replace the gang affiliations.
