Outcomes & Measures:
(self-reported)
Scoring for this section is based on the organizations ability to provide at least three clear and specific outcomes with corresponding measures in which a relationship is shown between outcomes and measures.
Outcome 1: Self- Confidence
Measure Used:
I understand that many of our hoped for "outcomes" are difficult to measure quantitatively, but I just had to put this one down because it is a goal we really try to build in this program. Our moms, for example, now travel outside of the insulated neighborhood where they communicate in english and transact their business without fear or timidity. The increase in self-confidence is tangible if not measureable.
Outcome 2: Literacy/Education
Measure Used:
Report Cards, Standardized Tests, Computer Tracking Program for Achievements, Number of Trips to the Library, Teacher Assessments, Skills Record on the Computer Literacy Tests, etc.
Outcome 3: Strengthened Family
Measure Used:
Outtings as family have increased. We also plan trips (for example, to Raging Waters, the zoo, the opera) and note how often families are doing things together. We discuss the importance of meals together. Most have told us that they are trying to eat together with greater frequency. We have read the book "Fast Food Nation" together and had a nutritionist/doctor/nurse in to talk about healthy foods. There is a large increase (20%) in the numbers of families who come to the Center for couseling when problems with their children or in their marriages occur.
Outcome 4: Opportunity
Measure Used:
Mothers and/or Fathers have sought, applied for and received jobs as a direct consequence of their relationship with the Center either because of referrals, recommendations or due to skills they have acquired here. Children and Mothers have gotten scholoarships (for example, camp, music performances, art classes, recreation programs, swimming schools, etc) as a direct consequence fo their participation in our programs.
Outcome 5: Growth in Desire to Know God
Measure Used:
Most of the students and their mothers chose to participate in catechisis programs, most chose to receive the sacraments, all are going to some church more than prior to our relationship with them, amny are going to a church of their choosing ona regular basis, most of the mothers are doing bible study formally with us.
Change Process:
(self-reported)
Scoring for this section is based on the organizations ability to provide clear, measurable, client-focused stages of change based on participant participation.
Program participants are able to obtain their food and clothing free of charge from the Center. They are also able to take one full a week off so that they can study english, computers, catechisis, keyboarding, reading and other curricular subjects. The ability to speak in the language of this Country, to transact business, to obtain better and more frequent employment, to enjoy reading and writing, to become conversant with computer technologies are all life-changing. Participants also demonstrate a distinct change in attitude; they no longer appear as oppressed, subservient, timid people. They are much more self-actualized and generally appear happier and more confident. Care just does that...it transforms.
Program Score - Historical Review
Note: Significant decreases in scores may be the result of incomplete data in a Samaritan Award application.
