Change Process: (self-reported)
The key to change is in forging a connection between teens and caring, committed mentors (many who live in the neighborhood). In this relational context, teens are offered services and activities that will propel them toward spiritual, physical, relational, economic, and civil literacy. We believe that youth who are empowered in these areas are poised to become competent and caring community leaders. City Life is not just keeping the same 100 kids in school and away from at-risk behaviors. New kids with substantial issues are entering all the time. Ideally, they progress through a continuum: 1) In Middle School, contact with a City Life teen participant; staff person, or volunteer; Attend a CL program 2) Become a regular attendee (at-risk behaviors begin to decrease), 3) Become a CL student leader for CL JV 4) Entry into High School Programs 4) Become a CL "Volunteer in Training" for CL JV (Middle School Program) 5) Become an adult community leader who is ready to "give back" to the community (hopefully through volunteering as an adult CL leader or City Life paid staff)
