Change Process: (self-reported)
Interfaith Housing is unique in its approach to serving the homeless. We believe each individual, whether resident, volunteer, donor or staff has been sent here for God's purpose. In response to this belief, Interfaith has established a community where each person ministers to another regardless of their position. In this environment, all who come experience positive change. Because of this approach, Interfaith residents become not only receivers, but givers as well. As their self-esteem improves, each resident blossoms into the being God created them to be. Our approach is to encourage the participant to set their own goals, with guidance by a mentor and then to hold them accountable to their own goals. By allowing the participant to create their own goals, they learn goal setting techniques while maintaining their sense of worth. Program participants see progress each week while meeting with a mentor who guides them to self-sufficiency. They quickly learn progress toward their goals is ultimately their decision and that challenges along the way are merely opportunities to respond to real life in a constructive way.
