Board Activities

  • Formally reviews the performance of the chief executive officer at least once every two years.
  • Formally approves the budget.
  • Ensures that arrangements with outside fund raising firms are made in writing.
  • Receives information about the financial arrangements with such firms and, if applicable, the anticipated portion of the gross proceeds that goes to the organization.

Outcome 1
Improved money management

Measure
100 percent of youth place 70 percent of summer earnings into savings, donate 10 percent to a church or other organization and utilize the remaining 20 percent for personal expenses.


Outcome 2
Increased educational attainment

Measure
Upon high school graduation, 85 percent of youth enroll in college, many through NCCÕs college assistance program, CAPS.


Outcome 3
Improved ability to avoid at-risk behaviors

Measure
85 percent of participants exhibit respect for peers and authority figures, learn to make positive choices and avoid teen pregnancy, victimization by violent injuries, dropping out of school, engaging in criminal activity and gang involvement.


Outcome 4
Improved leadership skills

Measure
All teens will increase abilities to lead others through conducting ÒrapÓ sessions with younger children, facilitating day camps and mentoring a child one-on-one.

Improved self-esteem

Measure
All youth will display increased self-esteem by actively participating in team-building activities, creative projects and arts performances.


Change Process: (self-reported)

Through the use of pre- and post-evaluations, NCC tracks the measurable differences made in participants' lives. Participants consistently both report and display development of good work ethics, particularly in Christian service to the needy; display a marked improvement in the performing arts, particularly as a means to express their lives and their faith; increase self-confidence, self-expression and creativity, especially as these areas help them learn cooperative interaction; develop healthy attitudes and behaviors toward budgeting and saving; grow in their spiritual identity in Christ; increase knowledge of resources and strategies to avoid at-risk situations and behaviors; and develop personal goals, particularly regarding educational attainment and vocation.
